Information

This site is intended to be a simple presentation of photographs and other items from Northern Rhodesia and Zambia between the mid 50s and 1969 when my father was involved in agricultural extension. We lived in Namushakende (near Mongu), Kawambwa, Abercorn (Mbala), Kasama and Monze.

To modern day Zambians I can only say how much my memories of the time I spent in your country mean to me and that I hope that you are also able to enjoy these photographs from your history.

I have tried to present the materials in such a way that users can view them at speed but obtain reasonable detail for those which interest them. Most of the colour photographs have been extracted from slides previously transfered to Kodak PhotoCDs.

Since writing the above I have been given access to a considerable number of RST Horizon magazines and am adding items which I think may be of interest. I am grateful to Angus MacDonald for these and for a considerable number of 'Northern Rhodesia Journals' which formed the nucleus of the set that is now on the site. Angus was, among other jobs, DC Mporokoso and, for many years, lived in Aberdeen, not far from my parents, Mona and Marshall Singer. Sadly, Angus died on the 27th of April 2004; raise a glass to him as you enjoy browsing through his legacy to all of us. Also a dram to my Father who died on the 14th of October 2007 and my Mother who passed away on the 4th of June, 2016.

Ian Singer 28th October 2000, 7th May 2004, 28th October 2008, 17th June 2015, 2nd October 2017.
